CONTINENTAL DRIFT: CHINA
In this chapter, Alex Majoli shot a different sort of migration, less about conflict and more about opportunity. The subject: 278 million Chinese laborers, the secret source of China’s urban economy, returning to their rural homes for the Chinese New Year in what amounts to the largest annual migration on earth. Alex squeezed into packed trains and navigated long lines and congested train stations with throngs of his fellow travelers making stunning images and short films along the way. It's poetry in utter chaos.
